Students are working on their different projects
from a full bodied figure to a portrait, to a bas-relief.
Instruction is individual to the student. The
students are allowed enough time to finish their work, so as to be able to go
beyond putting together a rough sketch of a figure and being able to finish
their work in fine detail.
Sculpture from the model Instruction by Michael Shacham Class code: M35 Description: Study advanced human anatomy and the language of fine sculpture, working from the model. Combining both the technical and the spiritual to create fine art sculpture. Students receive individual instruction at their own level so that a beginner can join the class as well. This class meets every Wednesday evening from 6 PM to 9 PM. The cost for Wednesday evening classes is $135.00- per month. Students pay for 4 sessions at a time, and need to buy additional supplies. Wood Carving Mr. Shacham teaches a class in woodcarving at the American Wood Carving School in Wayne, New Jersey. This class meets every Monday afternoon from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. For information on signing up for this class click on the link below.
Summer Sculpture Immersion Marathon is over for this year Sculptor Michael Shacham is offering a full week of sculpture instruction for students who wish to learn to sculpt an anatomically correct figure from a live model. The objective is for each student to complete one figure in plasticine by the end of the marathon. This does not include any casting in plaster or other materials. Location: The Marathon was held this year at the Morris County Art Association. Located at 10 Catherine lane, Morristown NJ. 07960. Dates: The Marathon was held from Tuesday June 24 2008 to Saturday June 28 2008, from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with a 1 hour lunch break. Students will build an aluminum wire armature, and work in professional grade plasticine. All materials may be purchased at the studio, or bought outside. The Cost: for this course is $500.00 for the 5 days. Students who are interested in taking this course, can send a 25% deposit to hold the place, but must pay in full by June 1 2008 There will be no refunds after June 10th.
An Introduction to Stone Carving, Instructor, Michael Shacham Class code: M6MS Description: This course is intended as an introduction to the (age old) hand carving techniques for sculpting in stone. Students will learn how to visualize what they can do with a given piece of Alabaster, or marble and then learn to carve it. Dates: This course is now ongoing and will continue throughout the warm months. We will be working in the back yard of the Morris County Art Association under a large tent. We meet every Saturday morning at 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM weather permitting. The course will continue until it is too cold to work outside. Then we plan to continue next spring. Price: for course: You pay for 4 classes at a time,$150.00 for none members of the Morris County Art Association or $135.00 for members.
